The weather this morning had us cancel the field work we had planned today but I hope I can get Breis and Fryer moving tomorrow. I, along with Kathryn and Ezra, will be heading to New Hampshire Tuesday to attend a workshop, Logging with Oxen. The event will be on the 6th and 7th. Then visiting friends and family before returning home.
Breis and Fryer will be staying home this time. I can't imagine carrying them that far. And Kathryn and Ezra will miss Fi and Asha but Christopher will take care of them and all the animals while they're gone.
The workshop will be held at sanbornmillsfarm.org. Check out there website. It truly is a beautiful farm.
The main focus of the workshop is safety. Learning to hitch logs to chains and forecarts, and using proper equipment and tools to get the job done by keeping us and the oxen safe is #1 priority.
Tim Huppe will be our instructor and I look forward to asking him tons of questions. I hope to take my yoke for some strong constructive criticism. Since He is the Yoke Master.
I attended Tim Huppe's "Basic Training with Oxen" back in 2009 when Breis and Fryer were just born. I had no idea what I was doing back then. I sure have learned so much. At least I can say the Boys have taught me a lot.
When we get back, I can't wait to do some logging on the farm. We have many logs laying around due to some clearing back in the summer, so Breis and Fryer will have plenty of work to do during this winter.
